Antique Brass Framed ‘End of Day’ or ‘Slag’ Glass button

Antique Brass Framed ‘End of Day’ or ‘Slag’ Glass button

Rare Antique Collectors button resembling an 18th century stone-set button but this one set with purple and white marbled glass, sometimes called ‘End of Day’ or ‘Slag’ glass. . Purple is the most expensive glass to make as it requires gold to achieve the colour. Cut surface and set high in curved brass splayed frame. Probably mid 19th century but feels 18th century by style and size. Lead coloured metal back. Brass Shank. From a Private Collection. Condition is Very Good (but there is a brown patch on the brass frame..possibly maybe able to be polished out).

Size. Dia. 33mm (Over an 1.25 inches).
